ABSTRACT

Nasopharyngeal angiofibroma is an uncommon benign tumor with highly vascular, invasive and noncapsulated characters. It is histologically benign but clinically considered malignant because of anatomical relationship, bleeding tendency in surgical procedures and resistance to treatment. It is generally considered that it occurs mostly in adolescent males, but some authors have reported a few cases of females. Recently, the authors have experienced a case of nasopharyngeal angiofibroma in a 17-year-old male with complaints of nasal obstruction and protruded mass outside of the nasal cavity. The surgical treatment was done under the general anesthesia after gelfoam embolization of the main feeding arteries. On histological examination, it was confirmed to be nasopharyngeal angiofibroma.
