Familial Hereditary Hearing Loss

ABSTRACT

An audiometric evaluation of patients with hereditary hearing loss was done on patients from 7 families. Familial hereditary sensorineural hearing loss was found in 35 patients out of 68 members from 7 families. Four family had dominant trait and 3 family had recessive trait of hearing loss. Hearing loss was bilateral sensorineural type with low tone residual hearing in 2 family, horizontal type in 2 family, high tone loss in 2 family, and basin type in 1 family. The type of hearing loss was similar in sibblings from same family. The hearing loss was noticed from the age of 7 to 12 years old. It was progressed in 3 families. Site-of-lesion was cochlea in 6 family.
