Tinnitus is one of the commonest complaints for which the otologist is consulted. It is either subjective or objective. The former refers to that sensation heard only by the patient, and the latter to that which can be heard also by the examiner. Objective tinnitus, unlike subjective tinnitus, is rare. As the causes of objective tinnitus Atkinson(1947) mentioned ; (a) Vascular bruits, (b) Muscle spasms, (c) Nasopharyngeal sounds, and (d) Clicking jaw. Among these types, the one of vascular origin makes up the largest group and also occupies a special position, being greatly harassing to the patient. Recently, the authors experienced one case of the objective tinnitus due to venous hum, which was treated with the internal jugular vein ligation.
