Carotid Cavernous Fistula as Complication of Severe Facial Fracture

ABSTRACT

Maxillofacial trauma in our high speed, mobile population became a common problem for maxillofacial surgeon. He must have through knowledge of anatomy and various methods of reconstruction and aware of potential complications. Although carotid cavernous fistulas from head trauma are rare, definitive diagnosis is usually not difficult. Recent advances in CT and angiography in association with clinical symptoms and signs of CCF made early diagnosis and treatment possible. The author experienced and treated a CCF case following severe facial fracture successfully.
