ABSTRACT

The branchial apparatus is a group of structure, which undergoes its development and differentiation between the third and seventh weeks in human embryo, and it is phylogenetically analogous to the respiratory gill apparatus of fishes. Cysts, sinuses, fistulae of the lateral neck are believed to be originate from the remnants of embryologic branchial apparatus that persist into postnatal life. Among these anomalies, branchial fistulae which have free communication from skin of lateral neck to oropharynx or hypopharynx are very rare. Recently, the authors have experienced two cases of complete branchial fistulae in a 3-year-old female child and 27-year-old woman and report with review of literatures.
