ABSTRACT |
The author observed on clinical status of 70 vocal cord paralysis during the period of first, March, 1977 through twenty eight, February 1987 at Department of Otolaryngology, College of Medicine, Korea University. The results were as follows : 1) The male v/s female is 3 v/s 2, 5th and 6th decade were most prevalent age group. 2) Hoarseness was complained in the almost cases and associated with dyspnea or swallowing difficulty were also in some cases, time lag from onset to diagnosis was revealed in most frequently within two months. 3) In paralyzed vocal cord, the left side was more frequently attacked in 57.1%, the position of paralyzed vocal cord was mostly paramedian position in unilateral vocal cord paralysis and median position in bilateral vocal cord paralysis, and more frequently paramedian position in short time lag, intermediate position in long time lag and more frequently paramedian and intermediate position in peripheral causes, median position in central causes. 4) The incidence of etiologic factors were disclosed that unknown origin took 47% as highest incidence and postoperative trauma took 23% also. 5) In all 70 cases, 18 cases were managed by operation. 9 cases of unilateral vocal cord paralysis were managed by liquid silastic injection into vocal cord, 3 cases were done arytenoidectomy by extralaryngeal approach, 6 cases were done arytenoidectomy by endolaryngeal approach.
