ABSTRACT |
Malignant external otitis is an infectious disease of the external auditory meatus uniformly caused by Gram negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa organism and mainly affecting the elderly diabetics. It leads to, if not properly treated, facial palsy, mastoiditis, sepsis, osteomyelitis of the skull base, sigmoid sinus thrombosis, multiple cranial nerve palsies, and even death. Recently, the authors have experienced 2 cases of malignant external otitis.
