ABSTRACT |
The prevalence of allergic etiology in children with frequent rhinorrhea has been increased. Therefore we aimed to observe the allergic skin test positivity and to evaluate the significance of this test in children with frequent rhinorrhea. The material in this study included 960 middle class children from 6 to 18 year of age. All these materials were selected randomly and let their parents fill up the Questionnaire, and allergic skin tests were performed with the most common allergen in korea ; house dust, house dust mite. We observed the skin test positivity in four groups ; children with frequent rhinorrhea, with asthma, with both symptoms and without any allergic symptoms. The results are as follows ; 1) The prevalence of skin test positivity for the dust related allergen was 22.7%. 2) D. farinae was the most frequent allergen with 17.2% prevalence, followed by D.pteronyssinus(16.8%), House dust(13.6%). 3) No significant difference in skin test positivity was noted in sex and age. 4) Skin test positivity was significantly higher in the group of asthma & rhinitis than the symptom-free group. 5) Skin test positivity was not significantly different between rhinitis group and symptom-free group.
