ABSTRACT |
The relationship of immunoreactivity and prognosis in the patients with head and neck cancer appears to be much complex and debatable in many earlier studies. The peripheral blood T-lymphocyte subpopulations and level of serum IgE and IgA were quantitated in group of 47 patients with biopsy-proven head and neck cancer who were admitted to Yeungnam University Hospital through January, 1987 to August 1988, and a control of 30 normal persons who were known to be free of recent manifestation of infectious, allergic or neoplastic diseases. These immune parameters were compared between 2 groups with the respect to the histologic cellular types, the primary sites, the stages of cancer, and local and distant metastasis, and showed no significant differences. Although it was unfeasible to offer any prognostic value of the immune parameters by this study, longer follow-up and expansion of the data base will bring more fruitful clue to this purpose in near future.
