ABSTRACT

The ischemia plays an important role in the cochleovestibular disturbances. In the presence of cellular ischemia, there is a deterioration in energy production and intracellular acidosis, resulting overproduction of free radicals which have harmful effects on various cellular organelles. Vastinan(trimetazidine), which is a piperazine derivatives, has been used for ischemic heart disorders by maintaining an adequate cellular energy level. We studied the Vastinan-effects on the cochleovestibular symptoms, namely vertigo, tinnitus, hyperacusis in 85 patients. The following results were obtained ; 1) Tinnitus, Vertigo, and hyperacusis were improved in 34.3%, 77.8% and 7.1% of cases. 2) Side effect of Vastinan was minimal, which epigastric discomfort in 1 case.
