ABSTRACT |
The carcinosarcoma(""pseudosarcoma"", ""spindle cell carconoma"", ""pleomorphic carcinoma"") is a rare controversial neoplasm of the upper respiratory and upper gastrointestinal tracts, occurring predominantly in the larynx, exophagus and oral cavity. It is usually polypoid growth that microscopically present two compoments, a squamous cell carcinoma and a pleomarphic spindle cell component. This report describes an example of such a mixed tumor with metastasis by the carcinoma from a hypopharyngeal primary in 60 year-old male. He was successfully treated with the total laryngectomy with left functional neck dissection, followed by radiotherapy. So we report this case with a brief literature review.
