ABSTRACT |
Some previous studies have tried to establish differences in the morphology of the nasopharynx between patients with otitis media with effusion and normal persons. We have used the lateral cephalometric analysis to investigate these differences in detail. Skeletal and soft tissue measurements were recorded in 20 patients with bilateral otitis media with effusion and compared with 30 normal controls. Various points were plotted enabling 23 different linear dimensions in and around the nasopharynx to be compared. The results show significant differencies between two groups in the skeletal and soft tissue dimensions of the nasopharynx. We conclude that these differencies between two groups may be one of the etiologic factors of otitis media with effusion.
