ABSTRACT

Evaluation of biocompatibility is essential to find suitable alloplastic material for middle ear surgery, and design feature is an important factor in the creation of an ossicular prosthesis. Recently it has become partially possible to order an operator's own ossicular prosthesis from the factory. It is the purpose of this paper to classify the established ossicular prostheses and to perform experimental computer modelling of new prostheses. Four hundred and twenty seven ossicular prostheses were classified according to function, size, shape and material. With theses results, 4 kinds of new ossicular prosthesis were modelled using computer graphics. The parameters of prosthesis design were relatively simple and allowed the experimental creation of new generations of ossicular prostheses.
