ABSTRACT

Cochlear aqueduct(CA) and vestibular aqueduct(VA) are the components of perilymphatic and endolymphatic systems respectively. Whether their radiologic findings correlate with the clinical findings remains a controversy. The authors measured CA and VA in the axial planes of computed tomography(CT) in patients with sensorineural hearing loss, vertigo, temporal bone fracture, conductive hearing loss, and chronic otitis media by the three parameters such as length, width at midpoint, and width at aperture. The differences between the affected ear and the unaffected ear in each disease of the ear were statistically insignificant. We conclude that we could find no correlation of the clinical finding of the disease of the ear with CA and VA in CT.
