ABSTRACT |
Variable methods have been applied to predict the prognosis of cancer patients, one of which is molecular biologic methods. Many authors have been studing the relation between the basic mechanism of cancer and its laryngeal cancer, 57 cases of pathologically confirmed laryngeal cancer were selected immunohistochemical was done for p53. The results were as follows : 1) The overall expression rate of p53 was 36.8%(21/57). 2) The p53 expression rates were higher in supraglottic primary lesions(9/13) than in glottic primary lesion(12/44), however it was not significant statistically. 3) The p53 expression rates were increased by clinical stage, but were not statistically significant. 4) The p53 expression rates were directly related to high nodal stage and poor histologic grade and were statistically significant(p<0.05). In conclusion, p53 expression rates were related to some clinically prognostic factor and futher studies are needed to substantiate that p53 expression may be considered to be and variable factors in the larygeal cancer.
