ABSTRACT |
Total maxillectomy is the treatment of choice for carcinoma of maxillary sinus. If the orbital periostium has been invaded by carcinoma, a maxillectomy with orbital exenteration should be considered for en-bloc resection of tumor. But when performing a maxillectomy with preservation of the eye ball, possibly diplopia and deformed facial contour may happen postoperatively. A number of techniques has been introduced for supporting the orbital floor following a maxillectomy without orbital exenteration. These methods including skin graft, muscular sling and bone graft, did not provide a satisfactory results in terms of facial contour, diplipia, and psychologic aspects. The vascularized calvarial flap is a modified method of free calvarial bone graft. We experienced two cases of vascularized calvarial flap for the reconstruction of orbital floor after total maxillectomy. Vasclarized calvarial flap is considered useful method in the reconstruction of orbital floor.
