Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma : A Clinical Study and Analysis of Prognostic Factors

ABSTRACT

Purpose : To determine the general clinical aspects of the nasopharyngeal carcinoma and prognostic factors that influence suvival is proposed.

Methods and Materials : Two Hundred and Thirty nine cases of Nasopharyngeal carcinomas diagnosed at Korea Cancer Center Hospital over 8 year from Jan. 1987 were studied retrospetively by chart review, telephone visit and letters. Statistic analysis was performed according to the each prognostic factors.


Results
and Conclusion :
Female showed better prognosis than male with statistic significance. Advanced N stage showed worse prognosis with statistic significance. Although without statistic significance, the older group showed worse prognosis. Early diagnosed group within 2 months from the onset of symptoms showed better prognosis than beyond 2 months with borderline significance(p=0.0568). The difference of T stage and histopathology did not influence survival. The induction chemotherapy was not associated with improved survival.
