Liposarcoma is one of the most common malignant soft tissue tumors of adults. But, occurrence in the head and neck region is rare. Liposarcoma of oropharyngeal regions is exceeding rare. It should be noted that abundant adipose tissue is found in the head and neck region, especially in the orbit, neck, floor of the mouth, and cheek. Their silent, slow growth, submucosal or deep location, circumscription, and firm but resilient texture often suggest a diagnosis of a cyst or benign soft tissue neoplasm. The clinical behavior of liposarcoma closely reflects variable microscopic appearance ; the well differentiated forms are the low grade malignancy and are slow to metastasis, but the poorly differentiated ones are often highly aggressive in behavior, they tend to recur and produce metastasis in high percent of cases. Surgical excision is the treatment of choice, but postoperative radiotherapy has been advocated. Recently, the authors were experienced a case of liposarcoma combined with squamous cell carcinoma arising in tongue, so reported with review of literatures.
