ABSTRACT

Rhinoliths are rarely seen as a special type of foreign bodies in the nasal cavity. They are formed as the result of an intranasal foreign body's becoming encrusted with mineral salts, chiefly calcium and magnesium. These foreign bodies usually originate from exogenous sources, but there have been several cases in which an endogenous nidus was reported. They are usually unilateral and vary in size or more in weight. The condition is found more commonly in adults than in children and more often in the female than in the male. Recently we experienced two cases of rhinolith, which were successfully removed with the use of a hook and nasal forcep through the anterior rhinoscopy under the local anesthesia.
