ABSTRACT

Seventeen patients with nasal septal perforations were treated by auricular cartilage autografting between April, 1985 and June, 1987. The autograft included unilateral or bilateral auricular cartilage with intact perichondrium. Fifteen patients(88%) reported relief of symptoms and showed complete closure of their perforations 3 months to 2 years postoperatively. Their transplanted sites were covered with healthy nasal mucosa without absorption of grafted cartilage or reperforation. One case showed incomplete closure and another case showed necrosis of the grafted cartilage and reperforation. Auricular cartilage autografting seemed to be one of the excellent surgical procedures for repair of the septal perforation.
