ABSTRACT

Intubation granuloma of the larynx is often developed iatrogenically after trauma on the vocal process of arytenoid cartilage during endotracheal intubation. Since first the report of intubation granuloma by Clausen in 1932, the incidence of intuation granuloma has gradually increased in relationship with increseded use of general anethesia. Until recent years, surgical removal was the standard treatment for intubation granuloma, but it was noted that many patients suffered from repeated general anesthesia and recurrence of granuloma. Recently, authors tried an inhalation treatment of topical steroid (Budesonide, Pulmicort®) in case of intubation granuloma and found that the granuloma disappeared completely within several months without any side effects in all six cases. We concluded that topical inhalant steroid is the recommended therapy in treatment of intubation granuloma.
