Laryngeal tuberculosis is considered one form of complication of pulmonary tuberculosis and the clinical patterns have changed for several decades. To evaluate the changing pattern, we reviewed 21 patients who were diagnosed as laryngeal tuberculosis from 1980 to 1989 at Kyung Hee University Hospital. The results obtained as follows : 1) The sex distribution was 13 cases(61.9%) in male and 8 cases(38.1%) in female. 2) The age distribution was revealed a high incidence in 4th decade(9 cases, 42.8%). 3) The chief complaints were hoarseness in 15 cases(29.4%), sore throat in 11 cases(21.6%), and sputum and dysphagia in 5 cases(9.8%) respectively. 4) Associated pulminary tuberculosis was showed in 20 cases(95.2%). 5) The site of lesion was epiglottis in 8 cases(27.6%), arytenoids in 7 cases(24.4%), and ant. 1/3 of true vocal cord in 6 cases(20.7%) in order. 6) The result of direct smear and culture was positive in 4 cases(19.0%), direct smear positive in 1 cases(4.9%) and culture positive in 4 cases(19.0%). |
