Laryngeal premalingnant lesions are occasionally seen in laryngologic fields, but clinical and pathological classifications and
terms7) have been used are numerous, including leukoplakia, erythroplakia, keratosis, hyperkeratosis, epithelial hyperplasia, atypical hyperplasia, dysplasia and atypia. The objects of this investigntion were to evaluate the pathological and clinical consideration and the long term follow-up for the risk of malignancy. Over a recent 10 year period, 53 patients underwent microscopic examination of larynx with biopsy, showing laryngeal premalignant lesions. All pathologic specimen had been reviewed by several pathologists, but final classifications and terms used were reviewed by authors. It is concluded that laryngeal premalingnant lesions were classified with two groups, epithelial hyperplasia and epithelial dysplasia, and futher pathologic subclassifications and clinical distributions related with lesions were considered and some microscopic changes in laryngeal epithelial lesions during follow up examination were observed for assessing the risk of cancer development.
