ABSTRACT |
Recently the author experienced a rare case of squamous cell carcinoma of the middle ear. A 49 year old Korean female was admitted to Yonsei University Hospital with a about 45-year history of left ear disease. She has suffered from O.M.P.C. from time to time after instillation of KCN sol. in her left ear for the sake of left ear trouble in the last 45 years and shoe had a episode of instillation of lye sol. on the teeth for treatment of teeth trouble 5 years ago. In the meantime she has been given conservative treatment. 6 months prior to admission, ear troubles such as deafness, otalgia, dizziness and headache were noticed without any specific cause. 2 months prior to admission, the left external ear canal became obstructed due to a granulomatous mass. One month prior to admission, facial paralysis followed and therefore radical mastoidectomy was performed and because of recurrence of obstruction of the left external ear canal after operation curettage of the tympanic cavity was carried out again. The pathologic report was read as squamouse cell carcinoma.
