ABSTRACT |
The recent advances in the administration of chemotherapeutics and antibiotic agents have resulted in decreased frequency of the intracranial complications resulting from otitis media. Auther experienced a case of otogenic brain abscess which was located at the right temporal lobe. A 19 year old male patient was admitted to Kwangju Triservice Hospital on Oct. 9, 1971 with complaints of severe headache, vomiting, high fever and otalgia. After the study of mastoid X-ray, examination of spinal fluid and blood were done, the opearation was performed under the diagnosis of otogenic brain abscess. The operative findings were that the mastoid antrum was filled with large cholesteatoma mass. The bony plate of tegmen was destructed and the dura was exposed. The abscess was confirmed by aspiration of pus (about 10 cc) with the 21 gaze needle through the exposed dura. The dura was incised and the pus was drained through the two polyethylene tube. The postoperative course was relatively good and he was discharged on 25th postop. day.
