ABSTRACT

A 36-years old Korean female was admitted to Seoul National University Hospital on June 26, 1972 with left otalgia and otorrhea. She has been suffered from chronic purulent otorrhea since about 20 years of her age. About one year prior to admission, a retroauricular fistula was developed with otalgia. About one month prior to admission, facial nerve paralysis was appeared. X-ray study of the temporal bone revealed extensive bony destruction in the mastoid bone and the external canal wall. Under the impression of a cholesteatoma, the patient was received an operation. But the lesion was suspected a malignancy and a biopsy was done and the procedure was stopped. A squamous cell carcinoma was confirmed by histopathological study.
