ABSTRACT

The author has studied with Korean words on the rate and the tendency of confusion of the words with the object of making lists of words used in speech hearing test. The used words were of the syllabic constitution which had V and CV, meaningless monosyllabic words and CV & CVC, meaning mono and bisyllabic words. The object of the test was 29 high school students with normal hearing who live in Busan city. The results obtained were as follows ; 1) The total rate of confusion of words revealed the highest frequency with meaningless monosyllabic words, followed by meaning monosyllabic words and meaning bisyllabic words. 2) The tendency of confusion of the words between meaningless syllable and meaning syllable was contrary to each other. With meaningless syllable the rate of confusion of the words had higher frequency in vowels than consonants, while with meaning one in consonants than vowels. 3) It was the consonants than vowels that influenced to the confusion of meaning syllable. 4) The tendency of confusion of vowels and consonants were usually of the same series in accordance with their distinctive features. 5) In vowel had the highest frequency of confusion of the words and diphthong had higher frequency than single vowel. In consonant, plosive fortis and the highest frequency.
