ABSTRACT

Since the first description of laryngeal granuloma following endotracheal anesthesia in 1932 by Clousen, there has been many subsequent cases reported in the world literature. Traumatic granuloma of the larynx is a localized inflammatory response to mucosal loss caused by endolaryngeal trauma such as endotracheal intubation, bronchoscopy, stripping of the vocal cords or excessive vocal abuse. Mucosal loss is followed by ulceration and infection and then by an overproduction of reactive granulation tissue. Recently the authors have experienced 3 cases of larngeal granuloma following endotracheal anesthesia with the chief complaints of the hoarseness and respiratory difficulty. Physical examination revealed a mass of the vocal cord, which was confirmed as granuloma by histo-pathological appearance in each patients. We present 3 cases of traumatic granuloma of the larynx following endotracheal intubation which the review of literatures and change of voice tests which were not attempted until now.
