ABSTRACT |
Tuberculous lesions in the tongue are rare. It has been reported to occur mostly in association with tuberculosis of some other tissues, especially the lungs, and has been called as a secondary tuberculosis of the tongue. Morgagni described the first case of lingual tuberculosis in 1761, since then about 500 cases have been reported up to 1949 by Schneider. Tuberculous lesions in the tongue do not show any characteristic clinical manifestations and can be differentiated from other chronic infective granulomatous or neoplastic lesions only by histopathological examinations. The types of lesion usually seen are ulcer, fissure, granuloma, and glossitis. Recently I have experienced 2 cases of tuberculosis of the tongue and compared with previous reports and literatures.
