ABSTRACT

The pterygopalatine fossa is a small complex triangular space behind the maxillary antrum and under the apex of the orbit, containing the nerves and the vessels. Foreign body in this space is a very unusual case, also having rarely been reported in the literatures of otolaryngology. The authors report a case of metallic foreign body (air gun bullet) in the right pterygopalatine fossa, which was removed through transantral approach to the fossa under the operating microscope. Pre- and intra -operative roentgenographic examinations were very helpful in making a success of the removal of the bullet.
