ABSTRACT |
Neurilemmoma is a tumor of a peripheral nerve sheath which arises from the Schwann sheath cell of the cranial nerves and spinal nerve roots as well as peripheral nerves. It is a rare benign tumor that most often occurs in head and neck region in about 25% and specially vestibullar nerve is most frequently involved but neurilemmoma of the pharynx is extremely rare. Authors have recently experienced a case of huge-sized neurilemmoma of the pharynx in a 30-year-old female who complained of gradual swelling of right aspect of the posterior pharyngeal wall with a foreign body sensation and rhinolalia clausa for 2 years. The tumor was completely removed under the general endotracheal anesthesia via transoral approach without incision of soft palate and was verified histopathologically as neurilemmoma of the pharynx.
