ABSTRACT

Antibiotic and chemotherapeutic agents have been a mixed blessing for surgeons concerned with deep neck infections. They have decreased the incidence of these serious infections, but they have made the diagnosis and subsequent management more difficult because of their masking effect on the classical signs. Recently, the authors experienced 3 cases of deep neck infections, such as retropharyngeal space abscess, carotid spaces abscess and pretracheal space abscess, which were managed with heavy antibiotics, steroid and drainage methods.
