Recent explosive increase in public transportation systems brought about another explosion in traffic accidents. Authors have studied 49 cases of temporal bone fractures who were admitted to DaeGu Fatima Hospital during the period of March, 1981 to December, 1982. Following are the results ; 1) 55% was under the age of 30 (29 cases). Sex ratio was 8 to 41 male predominence. 2) 21 cases were involved on the right side only, 25 cases left only, and 3 cases bilateral. 3) 37 cases(75%) turned out to have longitudinal fractures, 10 cases(20%) transverse, and 2 cases(5%) combined fractures. 4) Initial loss of consciousness was noted in all. 5) Facial palsy was accompanied in 2 cases. 6) Concomittent ethmoid sinus involvement was seen in 3 cases. 7) 2 cases showed pure conductive hearing loss whereas temporary vestibulocochlear symtoms were noted in 38 cases, most of which restored within the period of several weeks to months. 8) Mild hearing disturbance showed more ready restoration while severe loss restored poorly.
