ABSTRACT |
The
lingual thyroid is rare in occurrence. Recently, the authors experienced a case
of lingual thyroid in 48 years-old male who was visited because of frequent
hoarseness. It was found incidentally during physical examination. On physical
examination, a soft mass, walnut sized, was visible on tongue base between the
level of foramen cecum and epiglottis, slightly protruding with bluish red in
color. Suspection lingual thyroid, scintigram was done, which revealed
functioning thyroid on post-tongue region. No treatment was given for it because
there was no any symptoms and signs due to enlarged soft mass. A review of the
literature concerning the case was made.
