ABSTRACT |
In the present study the author has studied the olfactory threshold with aronamine-F test and T & T olfactometer for 179 healthy people(90 in males, 89 in females). 1) The latency in aronamine-F was compared between different age groups : 11.2±4.9(s.) in the 10th, 11.5±3.6(s.) in the 20th, 13.3±4.3(s.) in the 30th, 16.5±5.8(s.) in the 40th, 17.3±10.4(s.) in the 50th, 21.3±8.2(s.) in the 60th. The latency appears likely to be increased as age increased. 2) The duration in aronamine-F test was compared between different age groups : 64.0±16.8(s.) in the 10th, 81.4±28.9(s.) in the 20th, 79.6±30.7(s.) in the 30th, 70.3±26.8(s.) in the 40th, 70.3±20.5(s.) in the 50th, 73.3±22.8(s.) in the 60th, No significant difference of duration was evident. 3) The detection threshold in olfactory threshold test by T & T olfactometer was compared between different age groups : -0.8±0.9 in the 10th, -0.5±0.8 in the 20th, -0.5±0.9 in the 30th, -0.5±1.0 in the 40th, 0.2±1.0 in the 50th, 0.6±1.0 in the 60th. The detection threshold increased as age increased. 4) The recognition threshold in olfactory threshold test by T & T olfactometer was measured in the following : 0.4±0.9 in the 10th, 0.9±0.8 in the 20th, 0.9±0.9 in the 30th, 1.0±0.9 in the 40th, 1.5±0.9 in the 50th, 1.8±0.9 in the 60th. The recognition threshold increased as age increased 5) The threshold in recognition and detection for the standard test material C and E was relatively to be lower than that for material B. 6) There was no sexual difference in olfactory threshold test when determined by aronamine-F test and T & T olfactometer. In conclusion, olfactory threshold in healthy Korean people increased as age increased.
