| ABSTRACT |

To get the diagnostic accuracy of cholesteatoma, we compared the radiologic reports and the re-evaluated simple mastoid X-ray of the 290 chronic otitis media cases operated in Guro Hospital, Korea University, from May 1988 to July 1989 by an otolaryngologist and got the following results ; 1) The rate of cholesteatoma was 23.8%(69/290). 2) The diagnostic accuracy was 49.3% in otolaryngologist in 33.3% in radiologist. 3) The false positive rate was 18.1% in otolaryngologist and 6.8% in radiologist. 4) The highest diagnostic accuracy according to the site was 60% in case of epitympanum, antrum and mastoid cavity. 5) The order detection rate was as follows : Towne's view(42.1%), Law's view(40.6%) and Stenver's view(18.8%).
