ABSTRACT

It would seem that the incidence of otomycosis is increasing as the result of wide-spread use of topical antibiotic preparation in the treatment of otitis externa and purulent otitis media. The symptom of otomycosis is variable and the patients with itching sensation usually often scratch their external auditiory meatus with the fingers, matchstick and hairpin, and also at the barber-shop. But little work have been done on the fungal flora of the ear, though they are so fundamentally important. This paper deals with studies on the fungal flora in the ears of normal, purulent otitis media and post-operative cases as well as otomycosis.
