ABSTRACT

The author has experienced a case of jugular vein thrombophlebitis developed follwing the initial operation on the cholesteatmatous mastoiditis with otogenic complications such as meningitis and Bezold's abscess. An attempt to drain the abscess pocket into the mastoid cavity through the previously well formed fistulous tract from the destructed medial wall of mastoid cavity to the abscess pocket was failed and the disease progressed to involve the internal jugular vein passing near the abscess pocket. So the 2nd operation was necessiteat to evacuate the abscess pocket externally and ligate the internal jugular vein at the level just above the clavicle.
