ABSTRACT |
The authors experienced 289 patients of secretory otitis media from Jan., 1976 to Dec., 1980 and the results were as follows : 1) Age and Sex : Age distribution was predominant in under 9 years of age showing 61 patients(21%), of which 11 at 7 years of age. Sex distribution was 169 in male and 120 in female. 2) Season : 185 patients were attacked in spring and winter(64%) 3) Site : Both involvement is more frequent than one side(2 : 1) 4) Duration & Combined Diseases : 61.5% of patients visited a clinic within two weeks and rhinitis and sinusitis(69.3%), and tonsillitis and pharyngitis(25%) were combined frequently. 5) Otomicroscopy : Drum retraction was seen in 60% and decreased drum mobility without retraction in 16%. 6) Pure Tone Average(500, 1,000, 2,000 Hz) was 40 dB in air conduction and 14 dB in bone conduction. 7) Therapy : 128 patients were treated with myringotomy and tube insertion, and 110 were treated at one time. 82.6% of myringotomy and tube insertion patients were treated with drugs for 2 weeks. 8) Complication : There were 10 patients of infection in 14 complicated patients after procedures. |
