A statistical analysis was performed for 505 cases of Biopsy(male 339, female 166) suspected tumors at department of otolaryngology, Keimyung University Medical College and Hospital during past 5 years. The results obtained were as follows : 1) There were 77 cases of inflammations and 428 cases of true tumors, which were 333 cases(male 253, female 80) of malignancy, and 95 cases(male 42, female 53) of benign tumor. 2) By age distribution of tumors, there were 83.8% of malignant tumors in aged group above forty and 67.4% of benign tumors in young aged group below forty. 3) By distribution of chief complaints of malignancy, there were most revealed cheek swelling(41.0%) in the nose and paranasal sinuses, hoarseness(67.8%) in the larynx, mass(52.6%) in the oral cavity, mass(60.7%) in the tongue, neck mass(25.0%) in the pharynx, sore throat(50.0%) in the tonsil, dysphagia(84.6%) in the esophagus and mass (50.0%) in the ear. 4) By duration of initial symptom to Biopsy in malignant case there were most revealed 1 to 6 months(61.4%) in the nose and paranasal sinuses, 3 to 12 months(51.7%) in the larynx, 3 to 6 months(42.1%) in the oral cavity, 1 to 6 months (67.9%) in the tongue, 3 to 12 months (50.0%) in the pharynx, 1 to 3 months (50.0%) in the tonsil, 3 to 6 months(69.2%) in the esophagus, and 1 to 3 months(50.0%) in the ear. 5) Of 333 cases of malignancy, there was seen most frequently in the nose and paranasal sinuses showing 88 cases and the larynx(87 cases) next in order. 6) Of 95 cases of benign tumors, thers was seen most frequently in the larynx showing 27 cases and the nose and paranasal sinuses (16 cases) next in order. 7) Of 333 cases of malignancy, squamous cell carcinoma (234 cases) was the most frequent histologic type and malignant lymphoma next in order. 8) Of 95 cases of benign tumors, papilloma (37 cases) was the most frequent histologic type and adenoma next in order.
