ABSTRACT |
A statistical study on 435 cases of head and neck malignant tumors, which were confirmed histopathologically during last 5 years(1984-1988), was carried out to evaluate the incidence rate, age and sex distribution, and histopathological types. The results were as follows ; 1) All cases were 378 males and 57 females : Sex ratio was 6.6 : 1. 2) Age distribution showed a predilection for sixth and seventh decades(70.81%). 3) The most frequently encountered location of head and neck malignant tumors was the pharynx(148 cases, 34.02%), and next the larynx(142 cases, 32.64). 4) The most common histopathological type of head and neck cancer was squamous cell carcinoma(394 cases, 90.6%). 5) During last 5 years, about 87 cases of head and neck malignancies occurred annually in Kwangju Chonnam province.
