ABSTRACT |
The stylid process is normally a small, slender, pointed, downward and forward projection of the temporal bone. The elongated styloid process is rare and the syndrome associated with the elongated styloid process is more rare because elongation does not necessarily cause symptoms. This syndrome was first described by Eagle in 1937. Most patients with elongated styloid process remain asymptomatic, but some patients complain pharyngeal and ear pain and some headaches. These symptoms are due to stimulation of the nerves and vessels which pass close to the tip of the styloid process. Recently, the authors have experienced two cases of the elongated styloid process in two 31 year-old male
patients
