This paper was disigned to measure and investigate the auditory responses of neonates for early detection of hearing loss. Auditory response of neonates was performed on 197 cases in newborn nursery, applying the method of Downs & Sterritt(1967). The results were as follows. 1) Simple responses are 127 cases and combined reponses are 70 cases among total 197 cases. 2) Auditory responses of neonates are 98 cases of whole body movement response (50%), 66 cases of sucking response (34%), 42 cases of blinking response (21%), 37 cases of eyelids open response (19%), 24 cases of turn head to sound response (12%), 19 cases of ceasation of movement (10%), and 12 cases of no response (6%). 3) Intensity of responses is 95 cases of strong response (50%), 50 cases of weak but clear response (26%), 31 cases of no response (16%). 4) Time of responses within 1 sec. is 66 cases (33%), within 2 sec. 72 cases (37%), within 3 sec. 26 cases (13%), within 4 sec. 21 cases (12%), within 5 sec. 12 cases (6%) among total 197 cases and majority is reponded within 3 sec..
