ABSTRACT

Hemangiomas of the oral cavity compromise a significant portion of head and neck benign lesions. This clinical study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of Carbon-Dioxide laser vaporization in the treatment of oral cavity hemangiomas. We treated 10 patients with oral cavity hemangiomas by use of laser and surgical excision. The patients population was comprised of ten patients treated between January 1984 and July 1986. There were five males and five females ranging in age from 3 years to 58 years. Nine patients achived complete resolution after laser vaporization and one patient treated with surgical excision. No patient suffered bleeding, edema and pain resulting from lasering. We concluded that oral cavity hemangioma may be approached with control of symptoms and conservation of normal tissue as the therapeutic goals, so laser vaporization is beneficial in the treatment of oral cavity hemangiomas.
